the “what if it could be easy? project

15 CONVERSATIONS IN 40 DAYS

July 18 – August 28, 2025

From July 18 to August 28, 2025, I'll be leading the “What If It Could Be Easy?” Project for writers.

This project provides space for 15 writers to receive an in-depth 75-minute conversation with me to help create more ease, joy, and natural momentum in their writing practice.

These sessions create an opportunity for me to strengthen relationships with the people in my community (that's you!), to learn more about your writing goals and challenges, and to reciprocate the gifts I've received from my own teachers and mentors.

These conversations are how I connect with writers who are interested in working with me in The Writer’s Transformation Project, but they’re also designed to have standalone value for you—so even if we don’t end up working together, you’ll leave the call with substantial insights and strategies to help you on your writing journey.

the story behind the project

Back in 2010, I’d hit an all-time low with my writing.

Though I had graduated from my MFA program a few years earlier, I had hardly written a word since then. My job as a middle school teacher left me too busy to even imagine writing a poem, let alone a novel. I felt disconnected from my creativity, disappointed in myself, and pessimistic about ever becoming a published author.

While lack of time seemed like my biggest issue, I also realized that was just the surface level of my problems.

Just as significant were my internal challenges—perfectionism, self-criticism, and a crippling lack of self-confidence.

Looking back, I wish I could time-travel to the past and tell my younger self: It doesn't have to be this hard.

While the business of writing is undeniably very challenging, the act of writing doesn’t have to be.

In fact, I’m going to suggest something that might sound a little strange to if you’ve fully subscribed to the mythos of the tortured artist: writing can be easy.

Over the last decade or so, I’ve realized that four key things can help transform your relationship with creativity from something torturous to something beautiful:

  • Reconnect with a childlike sense of play

  • Deconstruct harmful myths about what “a talented writer’s process” looks like

  • Embrace false starts and missteps by choosing curiosity over criticism

  • Solidify your writing identity through meaningful connections with other writers

my gift to writers

So, if thinking about your writing dreams feels daunting, overwhelming, or painful right now, I want to give you the gift I wish I could give to my younger self: an in-depth conversation that offers you the insights you need to create with more ease, joy, and natural momentum.

That's why, from July 18 to August 28, 2025, I'll be launching the “What If It Could Be Easy?” Project for writers, which provides space for 15 writers to receive an in-depth 75-minute conversation with me.

During the conversation, we’ll explore your current writing goals and challenges, uncover how you can overcome the blocks that have been holding you back, and determine whether we’d be a good fit to work together in my coaching program.

what’s a coaching conversation?

The coaching conversations I offer are an opportunity for me to deepen relationships with the writers in my community, learn more about your writing needs, and pass on the gifts I’ve received from my own teachers and mentors.

Projects like this are part of how I connect with my ideal coaching clients and fill the limited coaching spots I have available in my programs, but they're designed to have value for you as a standalone experience.

And when you sign up for your conversation, you’ll receive a free gift from me: a 10-step guide on harnessing natural momentum in your writing.

this project is for you if…

  • Your writing feels very challenging for you right now.

  • When you sit down to write, you tend to feel anxious, overwhelmed, or lost.

  • You have a desire to grow as a writer and an interest in working with me in The Writer’s Transformation Project.

what will you gain?

During our conversation, you will:

  • Explore your current writing mindset and challenges. In what ways are you struggling with your writing practice? How and why does writing feel daunting right now?

  • Identify your paths to joy and ease. You’ll learn about the strategies and practices that will help you write with more ease, joy, and momentum.

  • Make a plan for moving forward toward your big writing dreams. You’ll leave the conversation with a clear sense of how to approach your next six months of writing in a way that will get you making big strides toward your lifelong writing goals.

  • Decide if one-on-one coaching with me is the next step for you. I currently have several openings in the next session of my coaching program, The Writer’s Transformation Project (Oct ‘25–Feb ‘26) and am looking to connect with writers who want to make significant strides with their writing in the coming year.
