stealing poetry

A great writing warm-up or story starter is to steal a line of poetry as the first line of your narrative.

For today’s writing prompt, begin writing a story using one of these lines of poetry.

  • “The rain is full of ghosts tonight” (Edna St. Vincent Millay)

  • “There are names for what bind us” (Jane Hirshfield)

  • “I am the thorn in everybody’s side” (Jean Monahan)

See where this line leads you! It might usher you into territory you never would have otherwise explored.
